Hoekstra Transportation Announces Driver of the Year 2006

St. Anne, Ill. — Hoekstra Transportation recently honored Ron Leoni as Driver of the Year for 2006. Ron came to Hoekstra in 2005 with a background in the transportation business. Since that time, Ron’s positive attitude and focus on safety has earned him recognition as Hoekstra’s 2006 Driver of the Year.

Ron received the award during the awards ceremony at Hoekstra’s Christmas party, a festive annual event for drivers and their families involving Christmas dinner, door prizes and gifts from Santa for their children and grandchildren. “I never would have thought it would be me!” he said.

Described by his coworkers as a humble, hardworking man, Ron is known for responding to compliments by saying, “I’m just doing my job.”

His driver manager, Mike Sayers, said, “Ron Leoni is a great driver to work with. He is flexible and willing to go the extra mile. Ron shows his dedication and drives to be the best, all while showing concern for safety and having the ability to change to the customer’s needs. I appreciate and look forward to working with Ron in the New Year.”

During his career with Hoekstra Transportation, Ron has driven over 200,000 accident-free miles. When Ron isn’t driving, he spends time with his wife, Cindy, and enjoys fishing, hunting, shooting and NASCAR.

Hoekstra congratulates Ron on a job well done.

CTL Announces Winner of the January 2007 Bull Dog Award

Mulberry, FL — CTL Transportation, LLC is pleased to present the first monthly Bull Dog Award of 2007 to Mr. Loyd Harrell, professional tank truck driver of the company’s East St. Louis, Illinois, terminal. The Bull Dog Award, which is presented to acknowledge an employee’s character, integrity, performance or improvement in performance, is the most prestigious honor recognized at CTL.

Loyd, who has been with CTL since December of 1995, is thought of highly by his CTL coworkers. As a CTL veteran, he has a great knowledge and understanding of just about every aspect of the tank truck industry. While he may be considered an industry expert, what makes Loyd special are the “little” things he does each and every day. Very simply, Loyd is responsible: he makes educated decisions and has no problem being held accountable. He is dependable: if you need him, he’s there. He is a professional: he understands that all loads are not equal, but all loads must be delivered. He is also patient: safety is a priority and he is not in a race, but always seems to finish first with his flawless CTL safety record.

“Loyd puts the needs of the company first. Recently he delayed his vacation in order to help with an emergency load,” said John Kays, East St. Louis terminal manager. Kays continued, “You never see Loyd in a shirt that has not been pressed and he is always willing to handle any work we ask him to run without hesitation.” All in all, Loyd personifies what it means to be a professional in the transportation industry. The “little” things that many others take for granted, or simply do not do, truly make Loyd a one-of-a-kind person and professional driver.

Landair Creates “Solutions from the Ground Up.”

GREENEVILLE, TN. -- Landair has selected a new brand message to embody the company’s core strengths and unique culture. The new positioning, “Solutions from the Ground Up,” is a direct reference to the company’s name, but also describes Landair’s method of custom-tailoring supply chain solutions to each customer’s unique needs.

“We’ve always offered an extremely high level of service,” said company founder Scott Niswonger. “But because no two companies have the same transportation and distribution needs, we determined that we could offer a niche service—to sit down with a customer, understand their business and work with them to develop a solution whether its transportation or distribution. Our new brand messaging really holds true, and helps us position ourselves as a highly flexible provider of integrated solutions.”

This branding initiative comes on the heels of Landair’s decision to consolidate their truckload and dedicated services, as well as warehousing & distribution business units under one roof. The new brand applies to all of Landair’s service offerings, yet still drives at the heart of the company’s core strength.

“Most companies try to fit a customer into an existing infrastructure,” said John Tweed, President and COO. “We customize each solution with efficiency, customer convenience, and continuous improvement. Our primary goal is to maximize our customers’ profitability, and you can’t do that by offering off the shelf solutions.

“But the real thing that sets us apart is our people. We tend to approach problems with fewer boundaries than other companies, empowering our people to make decisions that are best for the customer. This culture has helped us create successful long-term relationships with customers like John Deere, Goody’s, Lowe’s, Sonoco, and DuPont—and we look forward to adding quality customers.”

Landair provides truckload, dedicated and contract trucking services, commercial and contract warehousing, fulfillment, store stockroom management, transportation management, and total supply chain solutions. Landair’s dependability and unequaled customer service have led the company’s exceptional growth from a start-up truck line in Greeneville, TN in 1981 to its current position as a national transportation and logistics resource.

CTL Announces Winner of the December 2006 Bull Dog Award

Mulberry, Fla. — CTL Transportation, LLC is pleased to announce that Homer Roach, professional tractor technician based at CTL’s Mulberry General Office, is the winner of the December 2006 Bull Dog Award. The Bull Dog Award, which is presented to acknowledge an employee’s character, integrity, performance or improvement in performance, is the most prestigious honor recognized at CTL.

Homer, who has been with CTL since May of 1983, earned this month’s Bull Dog Award. During his time with CTL, Homer has worked hard to be a consummate professional. He is reliable, works until the task at hand is done, and works diligently and intelligently to solve a driver’s maintenance troubles. Truth be known, Homer has been working on CTL’s equipment so long, CTL could consider him its resident expert! “He (Homer) has the ability to work on any piece of equipment we have at CTL” said Todd Zellner, CTL’s Shop Manager. In fact, and this is common knowledge at CTL, if you want to know how to fix something, one might research through a manual to find the answer or just ask Homer. He knows.

It should be known that being an expert Technician at CTL is not who Homer is, it is what he does. While he is respected for his knowledge, he is better known for who he is as a person. He trains new coworkers and is a great person to work with. Todd Zellner, who is also a CTL veteran and Bull Dog Award winner himself, has worked with Homer all his 23-plus years at CTL and agrees, “He (Homer) is willing to go above and beyond to assist others…he is helpful in training new coworkers with his outstanding knowledge of the equipment and he is enjoyed by his fellow coworkers.”

We wish to extend a hearty thanks and congratulations to Homer for his many years of service, dedication and professionalism while representing himself and his many coworkers at CTL.
