Barr-Nunn Tests New “MPG Incentive Program” with Rave Reviews

Barrnunn_transportation_2
Granger, IA. -- Barr-Nunn Transportation is a widely acclaimed provider of highest quality transportation and logistics services. Since their inception in 1982, they have been the industry leader in pay packages and have grown to a fleet of nearly 675 tractors, 1,800 trailers and over 500 customers nationwide. Their large customer base and ability to efficiently meet the needs of shippers across the country have made them not just a stable operation, but one that is here for the long haul. It is also an organization that is poised for strategic growth. Barr-Nunn, strives for Owner Operators and Company Drivers to be happy. The Company is constantly working to come up with new ways to prove to drivers how much it values them.

With skyrocketing fuel prices and no relief in sight, Barr-Nunn wanted to create a new MPG Incentive Program that would not only motivate its drivers to participate, but also educate them to become more aware of their daily driving habits to save fuel. Company drivers were advised to top off their fuel tanks the 3rd weekend in March and again the 1st weekend in May, which would allow an accurate reading for MPG over that time frame. The top 5% in each group of drivers were then eligible for a drawing to win a VIP NASCAR race weekend package to Lowes Motor Speedway for the Carquest Autoparts 300 on May 27th. In addition, there were weekly fuel-saving tips communicated to the fleet in order to help each driver gain a better understanding of how to improve their MPG.

The winners for the VIP race weekend package were announced May 9th. Gerald Doyle and Sam Swedlund are the grand prize winners and will have the opportunity to experience NASCAR from the inside. Each driver will receive a Pit & Garage pass and be able to watch practices, qualifying, and the race from the pit area along with meeting Danny O'Quinn, who drives the No 50 Barr-Nunn Ford Fusion for Roush racing.

Barr-Nunn is always looking for ways to keep their drivers happy, and now their drivers have been smiling more than ever due to the company’s transition of new Freightliner Columbia tractors and Internationals. Barr Nunn has completely traded off all of their 2004 and older tractors with a new fleet of 2005, 2006 and 2007 tractors. "With our current fleet switched over to our new Freightliner Columbia tractors even our newly recruited drivers are getting into brand new 2007 tractors out of orientation" said Jeff Blank Recruiting Director for Barr-Nunn. "You just can't beat our industry leading practical mile pay package and a brand new tractor" he added.

Barr-Nunn realizes that their drivers are what keep America’s economy running strong and with this new equipment they can be proud to be a Barr-Nunn driver as they transport freight throughout the country.

Barr-Nunn Transportation Moves to Practical Miles Pay

Barrnunn
Barr-Nunn is always looking for ways to keep their drivers happy, and as of May 1st their drivers and owner operators have been smiling more than ever due to the company’s transition to the Practical Mile Pay program. This transition allows their fleet to achieve pay increases, bonuses and vacation much faster along with larger paychecks because the new pay system will more accurately reflect the drivers' actual route and that makes drivers and their families much happier overall.

Barr-Nunn ran “sample” lanes to make sure this would really benefit their drivers, and what they found was astonishing! For example, they found that a run from Columbus, OH to Atlanta, GA was paying 534 miles but now under the new system it pays 575 miles, which is a 7.7% increase in miles. Charlotte, NC to Cincinnati, OH was paying 451 miles and now pays 479 miles, for a 6.2% increase in miles, and Memphis, TN to Orlando, FL now pays 803 miles versus the previous 761 miles, which is a 5.5% increase in miles.

Barr-Nunn feels this is the largest single pay raise for their fleet in recent history and will continue to work hard to show their drivers the difference is real at Barr-Nunn.

Continental Express Driver Reaches Safe Driving Milestone

Continentallogo
With more than 25 years of professional driving experience, Tunstall has spent more than 13 of those years driving for Continental. According to Tunstall, working for Continental is easy because “they get me home on time for the amount of time I need to be home, and when I’m ready to go again, they have places for me to go.”

Tunstall says that when it comes down to reaching his safe driving goals, it all boils down to “paying attention!” He adds that “most people have so many accidents because they are too easily distracted; they are always busy doing other things while driving rather than simply paying attention to the road.” He also added that it is so important not to let yourself get too tired.

When he’s not on the road, Tunstall says he doesn’t have a whole lot of time for interesting hobbies. He claims “all my off time is usually filled with honey-do chores for my wife. That takes up most of my free time.”

Continental Express, Inc congratulates Troy for this milestone accomplishment and encourages him to keep up the good work.

Continental Express was founded two decades ago as a small truckload carrier with only 25 trucks. Today, the company is a premier coast-to-coast truckload, truck/rail, and logistics transportation company with over 500 trucks and more than 1,200 dry van trailers. Headquartered in Little Rock, Ark., Continental Express has a network of secure regional drop facilities that sweep the nation from California to Georgia.

Drivers interested in the company driving positions or lease purchase program at Continental Express should call 800.745-9670 or visit www.continentalx.com.

Continental Express Driver Sings Tunes For Truckers

“I worked as a professional musician for about 12 years playing with David Crosby of Crosby, Stills & Nash among others,” says Whatley. “Then I began driving and am in my 16th year with Continental Express. I just decided it was time I put my two professions together.”

Working with a connection in Nashville, Whatley is planning on cutting a CD called “American Trucker” in late May. “I wrote all of the songs for the album,” he says. “There’s a real market for songs that speak to today’s trucker.”

Whatley sent a demo tape to a friend who is well known in Nashville among the music industry insiders, having played for Waylon Jennings, George Strait and others. “He took my tape to a few people and they said they were definitely interested,” he says. “It’s exciting. Everyone at Continental have been so supportive and excited for me.”

Even with his musical aspirations, Whatley says his time with Continental has been satisfying and inspiring. “Many of my songs come from my own experiences on the road,” he says. “I have over 2 million safe miles with Continental Express. It’s a wonderful career home for any driver.”
