Currently rated a major category 3 hurricane with winds of 120 mph, Hurrican Irene is now moving through the Southeast Bahamas. Irene is expected to depart the Northwest Bahamas on Thursday night. According to computer models, she'll move in a path that parallels the Florida and Georgia coasts on Friday, then pass off the coast of South Carolina very early Saturday.
Just missing Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, Irene is expected to have significant impacts to eastern North Carolina on Saturday. The hurricane is then forecast to take its damaging winds, flooding rains and resulting power outages and destruction to other portions of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast late Saturday through Monday.
