PRIME DRIVER WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Springfield, Mo. – Prime inc. independent contractor Siphiwe Baleka won his first national championship at the 2011 U.S. Masters Swimming Spring Nationals in Mesa, Ariz., on Friday, April 29. Baleka, who joined Prime three years ago, won first place in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle with the second fastest times of the year. He also placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke, sixth in the 200-yard freestyle and 14^th in the 50-yard butterfly.

“I was just hoping to make it into the top ten,” said Baleka. “I still can’t believe I won two national championships.”

Racing at spring nationals was not only a personal goal for Baleka, but it was also the final phase of research for Fitness Trucking Inc., Baleka’s company that provides truck drivers with a series of exercises on DVD. Drivers can perform these exercises while in the truck or just outside the cab in 30 minutes or less.

Baleka’s fitness program is inspired by his work at Prime. As a driver, he realized the importance of staying fit and healthy on the road and the struggles drivers have to find time to exercise. Brian Singleton, fleet manager at Prime, helped Baleka set aside time to train and get him to the competition.

“Wherever I am picking up or delivering a load, I use my GPS to find a YMCA,” said Baleka. “I just want to show other truck drivers that you can stay fit even while on the road and compete at a high level if you have the desire to do so.”

Barr-Nunn Driver Hits 2 Million Safe Mile Mark

Granger, IA. – Barr-Nunn Transportation announced this week that another one of their safe drivers, Cyndie Schwener achieved a milestone in her career, by reaching two million safe miles on the road with Barr-Nunn. 

Cyndie first began her career as a Barr-Nunn driver in 1987, and though she left her driving job several times for other career opportunities, including a stint as a dispatcher at Barr-Nunn, she always came back to life on the road, feeling it was her calling.  Asked what factors she attributes to reaching this landmark, Cyndie replied “You’ve got to have some luck but that’s not all that’s involved. Driver Fredrick Rochon reaches million-mile benchmark with Marten

Mondovi, WI. -- Reaching a million safe miles of driving is a feat that takes drivers years of hard work, commitment and a solid relationship with their company. It also garners the respect of other drivers who learn of the accomplishment. For Marten Transport company driver Fredrick Rochon, it’s the best feeling in the world.

“With all the attention I’ve been getting, it feels like I just won a Superbowl ring,” says 51-year-old Rochon. “Marten does a lot to recognize this achievement and other drivers congratulate me and ask me for advice on how they can achieve the same goal.”

Marten Transport recently held a weekend-long celebration for Rochon and the other million mile achievers. At the awards ceremony, Rochon was presented a company jacket, hat, plaque and a certificate outlining his achievement.

“During the ceremony, many of the speakers were people who really make up the backbone of Marten,” says Rochon. “It meant a lot that they made it a point to be there and it’s nice to know that they’re celebrating right along with me.”

Focus, says the Rayne, La., native, is the most important thing drivers must have in order to be safe on the road. Marten equips its drivers with CSA 2010 training and works with them to remove distractions and focus on safe driving.

Rochon, who has driven for Marten nearly 11 years, always knew that he wanted to work with a competent company.
