New Locations Bring Virginia Total to 16
T he PrePass weigh station service will deliver increased economic, fuel, environmental and safety advantages as more commercial trucks comply electronically with Virginia requirements. The newest PrePass weigh station location opened recently on I-64 east of Richmond (Sandston) bringing the system total to 284 locations.
"We are delighted with the expansion of PrePass weigh station technology in Virginia," said Richard P. Landis, president and CEO of HELP Inc., the public-private partnership that offers PrePass. "Recent attention on truck safety has reinforced the need for everyone to do more."
PrePass has positive environmental benefits as well. By eliminating weigh station stops and idling in queues, participating trucks save fuel and reduce related greenhouse gases. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), reduced idling can save significant amounts of fuel. In Virginia, PrePass has processed more than 20 million weigh station events, reducing fuel consumption by 8 million gallons and emissions by 18 thousand metric tons.
Landis added, "By using PrePass, Virginia truck inspectors are able to focus on those trucks most likely to be deficient in their compliance with credential, weight and safety regulations."
PrePass Plus is fully-interoperable with Virginia's E-ZPass electronic toll collection system affording the convenience of one account and one in-cab transponder for weigh station compliance and electronic toll payments.
Beginning in November, PrePass will unveil an expanded suite of services that help truckers manage fleets, control costs and improve highway safety. To be among the first to preview new services, sign up at www.prepassnewproducts.com.
