DANNY O’QUINN, JR. SURVIVES CHARLOTTE WRECK FEST AND ACHIEVES CAREER BEST FINISH

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the No. 50 Transamerica Ford Fusion

CONCORD, NC -- The No. 50 Transamerica and associate sponsored Barr-Nunn Transportation team made their second trip to the nearby Lowe’s Motor Speedway this weekend to compete in the Dollar General 300 on Friday night.

Roush_1_1
Danny O’Quinn, Jr. who qualified 37th on Friday afternoon anticipated an intense race. “The race will probably be pretty crazy,” said O’Quinn, Jr. prior to the start of Friday night’s event. “There are a lot of guys running the Busch race that do really well here and a lot guys like myself that are starting to get the hang of the track now that we have been here a couple of times. I’m just going to have to use my head and make smart decisions”

The race got underway just after 8:00 pm EDT. Several early cautions made it difficult for O’Quinn, Jr. to gain a lot ground. So, when he came in on lap 15 for fuel and a track bar adjustment he was still running near the back of the field.

He was able to get some green flag laps in before his next stop and came down pit road for the second time of the night in 23rd position. The fuel only stop put O’Quinn, Jr. back out running 12th and with a race car that was improving with each lap.

Pit strategy really played in the No. 50 team’s favor. After several lead lap cars made green flag stops the team caught a break when the caution came out on lap 96 just before they planned to pit. The crew quickly gave O’Quinn, Jr. four fresh tires, fuel and a few minor adjustments before sending him back out in 11th position.

Less than twenty laps later the No. 50 Transamerica and associate sponsored Barr-Nunn Ford got loose coming out of the corner and O’Quinn, Jr. spun out by himself. He was able to save the car from coming in contact with anything. After bringing it into the pits for new tires, fuel and a wedge and track bar adjustment he was back out on the track and in 15th position.

With only about twenty laps left in the race and with only seven cars still on the lead lap; O’Quinn, Jr. was having a strong run in fifth place.

Due to a dispute between the No. 60 and No. 42 teams about who should have been leading the race after the caution on lap 183 NASCAR stopped to field on the front stretch to settle the issue.

When they got the green flag again on lap 192 O’Quinn, Jr. was in third place with only three lead lap cars behind him. Three laps later the No. 60 and No. 42 car wrecked each other after battling hard for the lead. O’Quinn, Jr. was forced to get on the breaks in order to avoid the collision and ended up with some damage to the No. 50 machine as well.

The team brought him in to make some repairs to the right front fender and for fresh tires before they sent him back out to take the green flag.

O’Quinn, Jr. finished 5th, his best finish of the 2006 season, his first top five finish in the Busch Series, as the top finishing rookie contender.

"It was definitely a great run for us,” said O’Quinn, Jr. “These guys on this team worked real hard. Yesterday we struggled a lot and they changed everything on it before qualifying and the car was really coming around in the race there. We did some thing through pit strategy and stuff there to get us up front, and it seemed like once we up there, we could stay around the top 10. We got our first top-five of the year, and I'm really happy to get that top-five for all of my sponsors, Transamerica and everyone. I'm just really excited and hopefully we can carry this momentum over to next week."

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. will compete next at Memphis Motorsports Park on October 28th in the Sam’s Town 250.

DANNY O’QUINN, JR. FINISHES 18TH AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY AFTER LATE RACE CRASH

    Roush_1
Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the No. 50 Transamerica Ford Fusion with Associate Sponsor Barr-Nunn Transportation

KANSAS CITY, KS -– Danny O’Quinn, Jr. came to Kansas Speedway with no experience on the track and a lot of eagerness to get back in the car.

After running ninth in the final happy hour practice on Friday evening O’Quinn, Jr. felt good about his car and the race ahead of him.

He qualified 22nd on Saturday afternoon, but anticipated that his car could easily run in the top-15.

The Yellow Transportation 300 got underway just after 2:00pm CDT on Saturday afternoon.

O’Quinn, Jr. almost immediately let his crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer know that the car was extremely loose getting into the corners and a bit tight coming off.

A wreck involving the No. 66 and No. 20 car brought the caution out on lap 27 and O’Quinn; Jr. brought the No. 50 Transamerica & Associate Sponsored Barr-Nunn Fusion down pit road. The crew quickly gave him four fresh tires, fuel and a track bar and air pressure adjustment and sent him back out with a gain of five spots.

O’Quinn, Jr. radioed to the team that the car was improving a lot and that they did an excellent job in the pits.

The No. 50 team’s luck turned on lap 43 when the No.66 car got into the left rear of the Transamerica Ford, which sent it spinning through the grass. O’Quinn, Jr. brought the car into the pits once again on lap 47 to assess the damage.

They made another track bar and air pressure adjustment as well as put on four tires and topped off the fuel tank. Blickensderfer saw no need to make any repairs to the mangled left rear fender as it was not rubbing the back tire.

Twenty laps later O’Quinn, Jr. had moved up to 19th position and radioed to his crew that the car was handling really good and was only getting better with every lap.

By lap 90 the car was a little tight coming off the corners, but with the concern of over adjusting they made no changes to the No. 50 during the green flag pit stop on lap 100. This stop put O’Quinn, Jr. back out in 25th at the halfway point in the race.

Thirty laps later the report on the Transamerica Fusion from O’Quinn, Jr. was “Good on entry, but extremely tight on the gas, especially aero. It is very hard to drive around these other guys.” At this point the No. 50 car was one lap down and when the caution came out on lap 128 O’Quinn, Jr. got the lucky dog and returned to the lead lap.

The No. 50 team made what they thought would be their final stop of the night on lap 166 for tires, fuel and a slight wedge adjustment. However, on lap 194 running 13th and with only six laps to go the No. 50 car fell victim to a crash in turn one. By the time O’Quinn, Jr. got the car into the pits there were only a few laps to go. They had two flat tires and a mangled smashed in rear end. The team worked feverishly and was able to get the Transamerica and Associate Sponsored Barr-Nunn Ford back out onto the track just as the field took the green.

O’Quinn, Jr. crossed the finish line in 18th position.

"We had a good top-15 spot there at the end until they all wrecked going down into one on that green-white-checkered,” said O’Quinn, Jr. “They checked up and there was nowhere to go. The people behind me had nowhere to go. I got turned and we're lucky to finish where we did, I guess, as bad as the car got tore up. We had a pretty good car today. We were moving up through there pretty decent all day. It was just a lot different from yesterday, and thought we were going to have a decent finish, but just unfortunate luck."

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the No. 50 Transamerica and Associate Sponsored Barr-Nunn Transportation Team will compete next at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, NC on October 13th.

DAVID RAGAN FINISHES 18TH AT DOVER INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

David Ragan and the No. 50 Barr-Nunn Transportation Ford Fusion

    Roush
DOVER, DE – David Ragan ran his second Busch Series race of the 2006 season at Dover International Speedway on Saturday afternoon.

Ragan qualified 23rd on Saturday morning after running 12th and 7th during the first and final practice sessions on Friday afternoon.

The Dover 200 got underway around 3:00pm EDT. After five laps Ragan radioed to his team to report that the car was a little free up off of the corners, but he thought that he just needed to get into a rhythm and he would be alright.

With several cautions coming out during the first laps of the race the team toyed with the idea of coming down pit road. Ragan told crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer that he would prefer to not make any changes yet since they had not gotten many green flag laps in. He was concerned that they might go the wrong way with adjustments and he did not need to lose any rear grip.

The No. 50 Barr-Nunn Ford finally came down pit road on lap 38 for fresh tires, fuel and a slight wedge adjustment. Ragan headed back out in 23rd position and was determined to work his way forward.

On lap 120 the No. 50 team had an excellent pit stop which really improved the performance of the car and put Ragan back out on the track with a gain of six positions.

He was running 17th when a caution came out on lap 145. Ragan told the team that the car was too free through the center, knowing it would improve if he could get some longer runs, but not helping on the shorter ones.

Finally on lap 157 Ragan came down pit road and the crew dropped the track bar enough to improve their performance on the shorter runs.

This stop put Ragan back out in 22nd position. He fought his way through some traffic and crossed the finish line in 18th place.

“It was a good night for the No. 50 Barr- Nunn Team. I wish we could have gotten the car right a little sooner, but overall a decent finish for us. These guys did an excellent job building a good race car and I really wanted to get it up front for them. Drew and all the guys in the pits did an awesome job. I had a great time working with all those guys this weekend and hopefully I will get another chance to run some races in the Busch Series in the future.”

The No. 50 team will compete next at Kansas Speedway on September 30th in the Yellow Transportation 300.
