C.R. England Increases Per Mile Pay

Shorter Hauls Receive Largest Percentage Increase

    Cr_england_fuel
SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- C.R. England, Inc., a national leader in refrigerated and dry truckload services, recently announced a pay increase for its drivers, effective Aug. 1, 2006. On short haul loads company drivers will receive as much as a 66 percent increase and independent contractors will get up to a 72 percent increase per mile.

“Our drivers log the most miles in the industry,” said Mike Leavitt, Executive Director of Recruiting for C.R. England. “However, they often look at cents per mile and not length of trip so we increased the pay per mile for all loads and drivers. The combination of high miles and mileage pay makes this the best pay package in the industry.”

The length of haul for C.R. England drivers ranges from 50 to 2,000 miles per load, with the average being about 1,500 miles per load.

Based on the new pay scale company drivers will now earn up to 50 cents per mile and independent contractors earn up to $1.50 per mile.

“We’re committed to providing excellent income potential and benefits,” said Leavitt. “We realized shorter loads needed to be paid more and so we adjusted accordingly.”

The average starting salary for new drivers is $36,000, but trainers and independent operators can make more than $100,000 annually. C.R. England’s benefits also include graduated pay scale for more experienced drivers, the highest miles per unit, safety and fuel saving bonuses, awards for safe driving, loading and unloading pay, layover compensation, a personal driver manager and a generous family rider policy. An innovative “fuel cap” program that limits the cost of diesel fuel to $1.25 per gallon is a further benefit to independent contractors.

    About C.R. England, Inc.

Utah-based C.R. England’s more than 4,350 employees, drivers and independent-contractors take pride in providing the highest quality service, safety and on-time delivery with more than 2,900 trucks and 4,100 trailers. Mineta_1

Mineta, 74, is the longest serving secretary in the history of the position. The Secretary’s last day is July 7, no reason for the resignation was given.

The only Democrat in President Bush's cabinet, Mineta has been suffering from severe back problems, sometimes working from home and the hospital.

The Bush administration has not yet announced a replacement for Mineta, who oversaw a number of dramatic changes in transportation security as a result of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

DANNY O’QUINN, JR. FINISHES 23RD AT KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the No. 50 Barr-Nunn Transportation Ford Fusion

    Barrnunn_transportation_6
SPARTA, KY - Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the No. 50 Barr-Nunn Transportation Team did not anticipate qualifying 5th for the Meijers 300 after having motor problems during practice, and they definitely did not anticipate the obstacles that they would run into during the 200 lap race.

O’Quinn, Jr. was running in the top-5 when he came in for his first pit stop on lap 25. After getting four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment he tried to exit his pit stall when the No. 28 car cut in to the box in front him colliding with the right front of the No. 50 Barr-Nunn Ford Fusion.

O’Quinn, Jr. was forced back down pit road four more times over the next 12 laps, most of which were under caution, to access damage.

After diagnosing the car as “as good as new,” according to crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer, O’Quinn, Jr. headed back out onto the track in 38th position.

By lap 84 the No. 50 car was back up front and in 13th place. O’Quinn, Jr. came down pit road on lap 105 for a green flag pit stop. While in the pits the caution flag came out and O’Quinn, Jr. returned to the field in 34th place and no longer on the lead lap.

On lap 123, the No. 50 Barr-Nunn team heard their driver utter the words that no team wants to hear, “I think I might have a flat!” Luckily this was not the case, but unfortunately O’Quinn, Jr. was never able to get back on the lead lap and up front again.

“We had a tough night,” said O’Quinn, Jr.. “We definitely did not finish where we would have liked or where we were capable of finishing. We had a great car. We qualified well. We made good stops. We just got into a little trouble in a few spots and ended up a couple of laps down. We came back hard and ended up in the top-25 so we’re just going to have to live with that and look ahead to Milwaukee.”

O’Quinn, Jr. finished two laps down and in 23rd place.

“Tonight’s race was not what we anticipated at all,” said crew chief Drew Blickensderfer. “There were just so many things that made this race really out of the ordinary. We had a few set backs throughout the evening, but I am really proud of my team and especially Danny. He really did a great job despite everything and really held up his end of the bargain.”

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. will compete next in the AT&T 250 at the Milwaukee Mile on June 24th. O’Quinn, Jr. is currently 20th in the Busch Series points standings.

Prime Inc. Joins AMBER Alert Highway Network to Assist in Search for Abducted Children

Growing Initiative Uses On-Board Satellite Technology

    Prime
Springfield, MO. -- Prime Inc., one of the nation’s largest truckload carriers, today announced that it has joined the AMBER Alert Highway Network, an initiative to help recover abducted children. The AMBER Alert Highway Network, a collaboration between the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and QUALCOMM, and supported by transportation industry associations including the American Trucking Associations, is the first secondary-distribution initiative to direct AMBER Alerts to professional truck drivers who are near the Alert area.

Our drivers are the ambassadors of the road. We are privileged to participate in such an admirable cause,” said Robert E. Low, president of Prime. “Our drivers can provide an invaluable service to our children. We are proud to play a part in the AMBER Alert Highway Network.”

Prime joins the growing number of transportation and logistics companies committed to the safety of America’s children. The new initiative has the potential to add thousands of trucks and drivers to the AMBER Alert Highway Network. Combined, the member companies dispatch more than 35,000 drivers across the country every day. Prime’s company drivers and independent contractors will participate while on the roads of North America.

QUALCOMM is proud of how quickly the AMBER Alert Highway Network is growing as transportation companies such as Prime join this important effort,” said Joan Waltman, president of QUALCOMM Wireless Business Solutions. “We’re honored to work with NCMEC, Prime and their drivers across the country to help locate abducted children.”

Secondary methods of distribution such as the AMBER Alert Highway Network, which delivers Alerts through QUALCOMM’s OmniTRACS® mobile communications system, assist in achieving the overall goal of the AMBER Alert program, which is to notify as many people as possible about a recent child abduction and provide information that can help in the search for the abducted child, suspected abductor, vehicle and in the safe return of the child. The AMBER Alert program is a voluntary partnership between law enforcement agencies, broadcasters and transportation agencies to issue an urgent bulletin in the most serious child abduction cases.

Truck drivers have already proven to be a valuable asset in monitoring the nation’s roads for missing children. This technology increases the reach, and therefore the effectiveness, of AMBER Alerts,” said NCMEC president and CEO Ernie Allen. “Just one driver knowing what to look for on the road could assist law enforcement in the safer recovery of an abducted child.”

Each of the 50 United States has a statewide AMBER Alert program, as do the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Since the program’s inception in 1997, AMBER Alerts have been credited with the successful recovery of more than 270 children.

For drivers to receive Alerts through on-board communications solutions, transportation carriers must be enrolled in the AMBER Alert Highway Network. For more information about the AMBER Alert Highway Network and instructions to enroll, please visit www.qualcomm.com/qwbs or call 1-800-348-7227.

Founded in 1970, Prime Inc. is a refrigerated, flatbed and tanker carrier serving an international client base. Professional drivers are encouraged to stop by Prime’s terminal at the intersection of Interstate 44 and Highway 65 in Springfield, Missouri. Since its establishment in 1984, NCMEC has assisted law enforcement with more than 119,800 missing child cases, resulting in the recovery of more than 102,200 children.
