Barrnunn_transportation_2
Granger, IA. -- Barr-Nunn Transportation is a widely acclaimed provider of highest quality transportation and logistics services. Since their inception in 1982, they have been the industry leader in pay packages and have grown to a fleet of nearly 675 tractors, 1,800 trailers and over 500 customers nationwide. Their large customer base and ability to efficiently meet the needs of shippers across the country have made them not just a stable operation, but one that is here for the long haul. It is also an organization that is poised for strategic growth. Barr-Nunn, strives for Owner Operators and Company Drivers to be happy. The Company is constantly working to come up with new ways to prove to drivers how much it values them.

With skyrocketing fuel prices and no relief in sight, Barr-Nunn wanted to create a new MPG Incentive Program that would not only motivate its drivers to participate, but also educate them to become more aware of their daily driving habits to save fuel. Company drivers were advised to top off their fuel tanks the 3rd weekend in March and again the 1st weekend in May, which would allow an accurate reading for MPG over that time frame. The top 5% in each group of drivers were then eligible for a drawing to win a VIP NASCAR race weekend package to Lowes Motor Speedway for the Carquest Autoparts 300 on May 27th. In addition, there were weekly fuel-saving tips communicated to the fleet in order to help each driver gain a better understanding of how to improve their MPG.

The winners for the VIP race weekend package were announced May 9th. Gerald Doyle and Sam Swedlund are the grand prize winners and will have the opportunity to experience NASCAR from the inside. Each driver will receive a Pit & Garage pass and be able to watch practices, qualifying, and the race from the pit area along with meeting Danny O'Quinn, who drives the No 50 Barr-Nunn Ford Fusion for Roush racing.

Driven To Succeed…..

Crst_team_1
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Spending quality time with your significant other is always a treasured activity, but rarely does one ever get to experience this luxury while working. For Irene Villicana and Michael Houchin, spending time together on the job is a reality they experience every day. Michael agrees wholeheartedly with Irene’s statement, “I wanted to find a job that I could do with my husband.” This is exactly what they were able to do when they learned about CRST’s ‘Train Your Spouse Program.’ Time spent together is very important to both Irene and Michael, especially while out on the road. Having only been with CRST Van Expedited for five months to date, they are two very dedicated drivers who are on the path to help “blaze the trails” for many future drivers. As Michael says about their dedication to the job, “My wife and I sacrifice to make ETA’s. Sometimes, it’s FUEL AND GO.” Nothing says dedication and dependability like that kind of attitude!

Before becoming a proud company driver for CRST, Michael served for eight years as a Combat Marine in the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the Corps, Michael was highly decorated for his achievements and often recognized for his outstanding performances. Michael also served as a Sergeant for the California Highway Patrol and worked as a dispatcher for nine years. With his new job as a company driver for CRST, Michael has many things to be happy about and look forward to.

Spending time with his wife and being a positive representative for his company is what matters most to Michael while on the road. He states, “I am always spoken to very professionally, and the people within the company are very pleasant to me.” As much as Michael enjoys the time he gets to spend alone with his wife on the road, he is always ready to see his three children that eagerly await his arrival when he returns home each month. His children, Juston (8), Janelle (7) and Jacob (4), are what drive him to perform as well as he does each and every day.

Family is very important to Irene, as well, who also has three children of her own, Nate (23), Corey (19) and Chase (8). Irene and Michael’s dispatcher makes sure to help make family time possible for them. Irene recalls one time when, “our dispatcher went out of his way to make it possible for us to be able to attend my son Corey’s Naval Academy graduation!” One of the great things about being a driver for CRST is that she gets to see her family every month after traveling to many “really beautiful places” as Irene states.

Irene and Michael both were able to earn their CDL-A’s through CRST’s company-sponsored training program. Irene was very pleased with the fact that she had “very little out of pocket expense.” When asked what she likes most about working for CRST, Irene had many positive things to say. She states, “Our dispatcher Kevin Murphy is so awesome and great to work with. You can request your time off in advance for home time, and the staff that runs the whole show is wonderful.”

Irene and Michael both have a great head on their shoulders and possess positive, driven attitudes. When it comes to overcoming problems they may experience while on the job, they remark, “Our fleet manager and us get along and work well together. Issues are always resolved promptly!” They both agree that the mileage is very satisfying, which is something very important to any driver. Having only been with CRST for a short five months, they are looking forward to their future with the company and are already striving towards their future goal of winning honors such as the Safety and the Million Mile awards.

Michael confidently says, “We get very positive feedback from our Fleet manager. We haven’t made the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR wall yet…but we should!” With their hard work and perseverance, as well as working for a great company like CRST Van Expedited, that shouldn’t be a problem for them. Michael sums up how he feels about his job when he says, “If you have the maturity and will do anything to get the job done, then truck driving can be fun and rewarding.” Clearly, Michael and Irene are driven by this kind of outlook and standard of living every day, especially when they are on the road working together.

Whatever your level of experience may be, there is a home for you at CRST. We are the nation’s largest team company, and we run the longest average length of haul and the most miles per tractor per week in the industry. To become a part of the CRST Van Expedited team, call us at 800-553-2778 or apply online at www.joincrst.com. Also don’t forget to ask about our “Train Your Spouse” program.

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. – Race Recap

DANNY O’QUINN, JR. SECURES TOP-20 FINISH AT RICHMOND
Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the No. 50 Barr-Nunn Transportation Ford Fusion

RICHMOND, VA – Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the No. 50 Barr-Nunn associate sponsored Stonebridge Life team overcame a lot of obstacles on Friday at Richmond International Raceway. Barr-Nunn couldn’t be happier that they still managed to complete the race as the second highest finishing rookie, right behind John Andretti, while also securing a 20th place position.

The first obstacle came for the No. 50 team when O’Quinn, Jr. wrecked at the end of Rookie Practice early on Friday. This forced the team to bring out the back-up car and move around engine parts. By doing so the team was forced to start the Circuit City 250 at the back.

The second problem that came along was the weather. Evening showers delayed the start of the 8 o’clock race and after parking the cars twice the rain finally stopped and the race really got underway at almost 11:00pm EST.

Soon after the race resumed and O’Quinn, Jr. got back out on the track he began complaining that the car was really loose.

Crew Chief, Drew Blickensderfer, brought his diver down pit road on lap 42 for some adjustments to the wedge as well as for fresh tires and fuel. Shortly after sending O’Quinn, Jr. back out, he became the victim of the No. 47 car which got into the front end of the No. 50 Barr-Nunn Ford Fusion on lap 69 after hitting the wall.

The team brought the car back in on lap 76 for tires and fuel and to quickly assess the damage. O’Quinn, Jr. relayed the message that the car was still handling alright and no adjustments were made.

Throughout the remainder of the race the No. 50 Barr-Nunn team brought their Ford Fusion back into the pits two more times for fuel and tires only. On lap 160 the caution flag flew and a large group came down pit road. O’Quinn, Jr. was not one of them. By staying out he moved into 3rd place position and continued to run in the top-20 for the remainder of the race.

By the end of the race, O’Quinn, Jr. felt like the car had really slowed down and perhaps they were a little off on their timing in a few places. “I just can’t run the bottom” explained O’Quinn, Jr., while communicating over the radio to his teammates.

Crew Chief, Drew Blickensderfer, commented in saying, “All in all it was a decent finish for our No. 50 Stonebridge Life team. Considering how not smooth the weekend went for us in general, with wrecking our primary car and all, we will take our top-20 finish. We definitely have some work to do with the cars before Darlington, but all the guys did a really great job this weekend and we are looking forward to next weekend.”

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. will be participating in the NASCAR Busch Series race at Darlington Raceway on May 12th. He will be driving the Barr-Nunn Transportation Ford Fusion.
